A Brief History. The Origins and Development of Baptist Thought and Practice. American Baptists, Southern Baptists and all the scores of other Baptist bodies in the U.S. and around the world grew out of a common tradition begun in the early 17th century. The North Pacific Baptist Convention (NPBC) is committed to building God’s Kingdom, according to God’s Will, through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit by enabling NPBC churches to endure and be a contributing member of a stable Christian fellowship. The convention's membership consists of twenty-six churches located in the Pacific.
The Pacific Coast Baptist Association (PCBA) embraces a vision for our congregations that is faithful to our American Baptist heritage and principles, by celebrating our diversity through fellowship with one another, by sharing our resources for our common ministries, and by participating in the wider mission of the American Baptist Churches, USA. The Pacific Baptist (and its predecessors, North Pacific Baptist and the Baptist Beacon) began in and continued until it ceased publication in This newspaper documented much of early Baptist actions and endeavors in the Northwest. The paper had a close connection with McMinnville College in Oregon and ties to American Baptists.
